Art in Camaguey, Cuba

Camaguey is FULL of art galleries

Camaguey really surprised us with all its wonderful art galleries. The centre of town is relatively small with lots of nice squares which have been renovated beautifully, lots of artists have set up their studios in around these squares so theyre easy to find and give the streets a colorful artistic vibe.

These are some of the pieces that caught our eye.

ZZ fell in love with a couple of fun cats by Ileana Sanchez & a wooden sculpture by Magdiel of a huge music box with mechanically moving parts, we couldn’t fit the sculpture in our suitcase so we bought the artists canvas to remind us, we also bought one of Martha Jimenez voluptuous ladies “Amigas Chismosas (Gossiping Friends)” for Godmother Estelle, our suitcase is bursting with more artwork to drag around the world 🙂

In Camaguey they have 19 bici taxis which have been painted by famous local artists, we loved this idea and tried to chase them all around town to get pictures of as many as we could.

Great pics, Lara. I reckon we may be able to bring some of your purchases home with us after we meet up in Asia. Tell Zander that doesn’t mean he can go back for the sculpture!!! Gxx

I might not let ZZ go back for the sculpture but I have my eye on a few VERY large pieces of afrocuban art in La Habana 😉 Bring a BIG suitcase to HK xxx
